About Artist D.K.Boljat

A self taught artist Darla Kay Wirthlin  grew up in the Portland suburb of Tigard Oregon. Darla married Mike Boljat in 1997 and lives with her  family in Sherwood where she enjoys creating landscapes in her art studio. Darla says "I love Sherwood and all of Oregon’s beautiful landscapes. I think I could paint scenery here in Oregon for the rest of my life and still never finish painting all the wonderful sites Oregon has to offer."

Life was not always easy, but Darla has had the drive to overcome whatever obstacles life brought her way. Darla withstood the struggles of being a single mom for the first 12 years of her son’s life and didn’t let any negative circumstances get her down. Rather than bemoaning the situation, she scraped up the necessary resources to purchase her own home in 1993. Building on her investment, she worked to develop life skills to succeed. Since then she is accomplished in gardening,  plumbing repairs and home improvement, including woodworking and flooring.

Not one to turn down a challenge, Darla has completely remodeled entire rooms in her home. She now has her own arsenal of tools, so she is prepared for any upcoming repair. One summer Darla rebuilt the front deck on her house. The next summer she built a playhouse (pictured below) following instructions from a book she checked out at the library. Darla is the ultimate “do-it-yourselfer.” No project is too big.  Painting is Darla's passion and has become a daily discipline.

Darla feels truly blessed by God, and thankful to have learned her new love of painting while still young enough to pursue it. Darla enjoyed the photography class she took in college, and now carries her camera with her ready to shoot the reference material for upcoming masterpieces. Darla says "Each painting is a challenge that I can't wait to begin".
